I think there’s some kind of bug with the MAC server stuff
I’ve had this for a while but tried to troubleshoot it just now.
I have an interface that is part of Interface List ‘WAN’
It is not possible to connect via MAC-Winbox via this interface (L2).
I change the ‘Allowed Interface list’ to ‘all’, and it still doesn’t work.
The only way it will work, if if the interface is put in the ‘LAN’ interface-list.

But maybe it is not the MAC-SERVER/MAC-WINBOX setting, but something in firewall?
I also think that this is going to be something else.
My main guesses would be that there might be some sort of interaction with the pppoe client, or simple user error in believing that mac winbox is unavailable just because it doesn't show up in the neighbor list (discovery is another setting.)

most probably. Mac telnet is some proprietary Mikrotik UDP protocol.

Hmm. You could be correct.
I assumed it was L2 and so firewall not relevant.
although, I have just checked and disabled all Drop rules and still no go.

I think you may have nailed it with discovery.. MNDP

Yup, was Discovery after all.
thank you this has been bugging me for a while every now and then. I just wanted temporary MAC Winbox access through this port as a fall-back
