After upgrading my cable modem tier to higher speed, the provider (time warner cable) insisted that I used there certified cable-modem Router (Motorola Surfboard SBG6580). I wanted to continue to use my Rb-493g and thus
determined that this device supported bridge mode; I placed it in bridge mode and tested in with WinBlows 7 and
Fedora 15 - Both obtained a public IP as expected.
So reset router and cable modem. Guess what status is “Searching”, Huh? Repeated but this time with winbox displaying dhcp status. This time while the cable modem is syncing, an address of of 192.168.0.3/24 with lease lifetime of 1 minute appears, with the lifetime counting towards renewal, The dhcp status changes to rebinding,
and that then changes to searching.
The only way that I seem to be able to connect is to disconnect the rb-493g etherport from the cablemodem, reset them both and wait for the cablemodem to sync and then plugin the ethernet port again. Works fine.
It seems like the RB-4993g /w RouterOs 5.6 does not want to change DHCP addresses if lost.

NO.. I have to leave the Mikrotik 493G router disconnected from the the cablemodem till in fully initializes. That way
its sees the correct PUBIC WAN Address 64.55.xx.xx. If I leave them connected during the reboot process on both the router and the gateway, the Mikrotik will pickup the address of 192.168.0.3, and then drop in a forever searching mode
when the Cable modem, drops that address and presents the actual address.
I have a 750 and have loads of DHCP issues with my motorola cable modem since putting in the 750. Went back to my Linksys and problems are gone. Anybody want to buy a 750G with about two days of run time?
