I am thinking of buying either the crossroads or RB411A with R52 and having this setup:
2 wireless networks using multi-ssid broadcast:
1 would be for guest and be a hotspot/captive portal with login page with the user info stored in the device and blocked from accessing info on the rest of the network (just internet usage) prob using VLAN.
1 would be for family members and be encrypted using WPA2 and have access to the rest of the network.
Would this setup be possible? and which hardware would be better recommended?
What you’ve suggested is do-able, wireless coverage for the hotspot of course depends on where the AP is located and also the antenna you end up attaching to it as well.
Just checking to confirm, you understand that you’d probably be best to use a seperate IP range on the secure wireless network and have it routed to your regular network right? You can then do the same thing and assign an IP address (and hence a new range) to the hotspot AP interface as well, then create a rule and deny it access to either of your protected ip ranges.
