potentially dumb PPP question - apologies in advance

Hi guys,

firstly, thanks to all the contributors of these forums for sharing their wisdon with us. I’ve had a LOT of help from you guys in the past.

I’m still “green” with the Mikrotik systems, but trying to get up to speed.

I have the PPPoE working ok for a couple of sites, so my question relates to management.
I can limit the rate, and all that, but I’m struggling to understand the control of the traffic.
(I’m using 3.x, and an old 2.9 which keeps failing it’s upgrade process… dammit ! )

Most tutorials or examples I have found are based on non-dynamic queues, so not directly comparable for me.

So … the $64,000 question (finally) is, how effective can pppoe connected routers be controlled ?
and can anyone offer any insight, however brief.

There you go - sorry if it is mega dumb,

Thanks in advance,

Jack.

Explain what you mean by “controlled”?

Are you connecting two routers with PPPOE?

Sorry I didn’t make myself very clear.

A lot of the published solutions for Peer to peer restrictions, and prioritization examples, are queue based.
With dynamic queues, is it still possible ?

The 2 routers are performing as pppoe servers, albeit on different networks, to authenticate the users.

Like I said, I’m trying to learn this on the fly and as the systems are all working it is hard to “experiment”
