Why isn’t there PPC cd image?
I have some old PowerMacs that I can use as Routers.
ppc system ONLY runs on RouterBOARDS. The only non-routerboard files are x86
But it’s still PPC processor right?
So why not cd-image? ![]()
there are a lot of different PPC processors and support for each hardware has to be added individually. PPC is not a name or brand - it’s architecture type.
you can learn more about this here:

I hope it helps ![]()
I do know that ![]()
I’m not saying that it’ll be easy to release PPC cd-iso/most people connect PPC with Apple computers and IBM Power stations/
But it will be very comfortable to use my powerfull G4 dual 450Mhz as Mikrotik Router.
promind, Mikrotik images is “set” for specific hardware/peripherals. It’s not generic, it will not run on PPC Mac’s.
Just because for example CPU is completely different, than Mikrotiks CPU.
you don’t get my point…
If they are able to switch from mips to powerquicc then why not be able to port x86 cd to ppc?
isn’t that the idea of open source?
if YellowDog can boot on Apple PPC why not MikroTik?
uClibc support ppc platform.
I don’t want to get in any kind of argue writing this…but I need more freedom using licensed distros/based on Open Source Linux/
because port OS to another system is not that easy and that includes a lot of testing. and that all is not outweighed by demand for that feature hence, there will be no port to apple produce ppc computers as even apple have abandoned them and there will not be any new hardware from that manufacturer whilst x86 is still actively produced and expanded
Ok.
