Please tell me if I’m wrong, but it seems to me that a pppoe connection can only be created between two devices that are directly connected. Unlike a pptp tunnel, which allows a remote destination to be pointed to by routable IP address, pppoe is attached to an interface, so unless those interfaces are directly connected by cable, bridge or wireless, pppoe won’t work because the client can’t find the server?
Is there, then, any way of setting up a pppoe connection through an intervening router or two? Do you run pppoe through an IPIP, PPTP or EoIP tunnel?? If you can, is there any reason to do so rather than use L2TP?
