We’ve been running pppoe servers on all our Routerboards for around 3 years. They have always worked great. But on a newer tower we are seeing some bizarre problems with pppoe. Basically, it is 3 R52H cards connected to 3 120 deg sectors around a water tank. The customers per sector/radio is as follows: 36, 7, and 15 (about 58 total). I have all the sectors bridged with a PPPoE server. All are running on a RB433. Free memory is around 42meg; cpu around 10-30pct. All wireless signals are very steady. Most registrations up for as long as board has been up. But what happens is randomly the PPPoE connections ALL drop (every now and then a couple stay connected). Now this doesn’t seem to follow a particular radio; it seems to happen to all wireless connections. I find it odd that it seems to be affecting the entire PPPoE server. We upgraded from 3.10 to 3.25 and problem seems to still exist. Also upgraded to newest firmware. Is it possible there is something directly interfering with the PPPoE server? Anyone experienced a similar problem?
I suggest that you create a new bridge in 3.25 and put the PPPoe onto this new bridge and see if that fixes the problem.
I have seen the same issue with our AP’s (bridged pppoe)
They have introduced a new L2MTU into the bridge and wireless interface screens and this is probably what is happening.
Let me know. I am still testing ours and at the moment all seems like it is working fine.
Others are having problems with the bridge too.
