PPPoE clients show DNS problem

My PPPoE clients running Windows XP SP2 cannot open web pages.

It seems to be a DNS problem, since they can ping and open pages through straight IP address but not through web names.

More strange is the fact that this does not happen over all the machines, but only on 3 over 10.

Any suggestions ? PPPoE connection configurations are all identical.

Thanks
Raf

Under IP->DNS, make sure you fill out the DNS information and check “Allow remote requests”

I’m pretty sure the PPPoE profile defaults to using the RouterOS’s caching server and then the public ones that are specified.

Eric

the flag is already set in the router operating as DNS server; moreover the fault happens only on some clients, not on everybody

Sounds possibly like a TCP MSS or MTU setting.. Make sure the PPP profile is set to change the TCP-MSS setting.

Try searching for TCP MSS on this forum and you’ll get more information on it.

It is already set too.
Anyway I will search for more information.
Thank you

on the problem nodes try specifying the DNS servers manually and see if it resolves DNS…

what do you mean exactly?
my network structure is:
router A is AP with PPPoE server (DNS B is specified in PPP profile)
router B is a gateway to internet (DNS option “allow remote request” is on and ISP DNS IPs are specified)

do you mean I should specifiy ISP DNS IPs in router A??

thanks
