I want to cover a big area has 80 houses and some trees in between with a full wifi including :
roaming users , means WDS or repeating “other options ?”
security means ,WPA-WPA2 or something like Ipsec and the encryption decryption will happen in user and server parts not the routerboard WDS forwarders parts, right?
accounting ofcourse coz not every one should login that easy, so hotspot or PPPOE is better here ? users are laptops no routerboard or ROS will be configured in client sides .
Ok I don’t think that I can achieve 35-40 Mbps with WDS network, so I am thinking of adding a second wds network and load balance the users accross the two networks, the 2 wds are in the same distribution in 6 different places, each is XR2 attached to RB433AH, that means 2 XR2 per RB433AH and each for one WDS network to link with the rest 5 points, is that going to help icreasing the throughput ? be a ware the first WDS will be in channel 1 and the second in channel 6 .
I don’t want any sniffers to sniff any type of data that is going through the network, so WPA2 is the way to go ?
Also which is better to use for WPA2 if applied RB600A or RB433AH ?
I know that WPA2 is done by hardware, so do you think there will be no diference ?
The speed in 2 or 3 different wds is impotant to me so which board to go with ?
Yes, the WPA2 is done on the WiFi mPCI card so it does not matter which board you choose. As for your other requirements I think you need to reconcider things like how much bandwidth and roaming…
6 Major nodes in the area using RB600A , and 4 radios per node:
1 Radio on 2.4GHz as an indivisual AP for home and fixed users.
1 Radio on 2.4GHz as WDS for roaming users coz the bandwidth will not be that enough, and users have the choice to login to any Individual network ot the roaming network “with a caution of speed limitation is the wds network”
1 Radio on 5GHz as an Individual AP for home and fixed users, because of the microwave ovens, Ididn’t do a site survey with spectrum analyzer yet, but the area has 80 houses 80% has microwave ovens so it will be fun in dinner time :S
1 Radio on 5GHz also for the backbone network that will connect the Individual networks with the main node that has the internet connection and POE conentrator RB1000 maybe cache server with linux or ROS .
from above , users in any location have at least 3 networks to connect to 2 fixed and one for roaming if he want to move around !
Antennas are 10dbi omni , the backbone has 8dbi patch .
Any comments about the design ?
Also Ipsec is very slow so I may go with WPA2, but not every laptop has WPA2, so it may be another problem .
Finally PPPOE or hotspot ?
About the average users online maybe 40 users the peak is 120 online .
There is a 30Mbps internet line .
Roaming users maybe not more than 10 in the same time, the average is 4 .
