PPPOE problem with Tranzeo TR4115 AP

I have PPPOE configured for a test user on a MT 2.8 box. I can connect fine when using Windows XP, but my Tranzeo TR4115 access point will not stay connected for more than about 1/2 second to this same account.

The MT log shows a connection established from the Tranzeo unit, then it shows it as authenticated, then it immediately shows it as terminating followed by disconnected. The only info. I get from the Tranzeo is “PPP login failed”.

I have verified that it is not a typo in the username or password - under these conditions the Tranzeo reports “failed authentication”.

There really are no settings for PPPOE on the Tranzeo unit, just user name and password and connect on demand or not.

I have the latest available firmware on the Tranzeo unit. Have not been able to get a hold of Tranzeo tech. support yet.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Cameron Hill

Do you have encryption or compression/VJ compression enabled on the PPPoE server? You may want to try disabling those, tranzeo may not support it.

To change/check the settings:

/ppp profile print

The Tranzeo units do not support encryption and I have that disabled. I tried all other possible combinations of the compression options and always get the same behavior.

I plan on contacting Tranzeo tech. support tomorrow (Monday) but I was hoping someone else on here may have an answer quicker.

I have never had any problems with anything else I have ever tried to do with the Tranzeo equipment - it has been rock solid. Kind of frustrating that something so simple seems to be such a pain in the a$$!

Cameron, I was in contact with the product manager at Tranzeo recently while inquiring about their new TR6000 product. I had a repeater application that I was hoping to use for this new product. Although I don’t know which AP you are using, the following is what Tranzeo told me with respects to MikroTik PPPoE and the TR6000. If this is a problem with the TR6000, then I would expect it can be generalized throughout their AP product line, but it is worth checking into.

If you use the PPPoE, the PPPoE server needs to be L25 compliant. Microtik is not for example.

I’m a bit light on my PPPoE standards, but this is straight from the horses mouth.

I am currently working with Tranzeo support on the issue - so far no news from them. I am not familiar with “L25” but I will definitely ask about this. Thanks for the info!!!
