I have the following problem. I’m a small ISP an I use PPPOE for user authentication and so on. It works fine.
But in a part of the network it works, I meen you can conect with the server an all is OK. But onnly for a few minutes. The the connection only receive data, but they dont sent. If I make a reconnect, it works fine for a few minutes, and then the same problem. What can I do…
I have heard of this on a network that the cpe’s had low signal levels on the upstream. (80’s). With the packet loss on the upstream the pppoe connect would stall and not recover. They could reach the customer’s cpe and manage however the pppoe had to be restarted.
Also is the network routed or bridged? What routing protocol is in use? If they are wireless clients what is the signal level / noise floor at the cpe and the tower side?
The network is bridged an routed, because I use a Coax System (TV Kabel). The modems are bridged an the customer routers create the pppoe an this all would routed.
There are no wireless clients. The problem is only in one network segment. 70 other customer has no problems. If I use a VPN connection to authenticate the users, there are no problem, but this is to uncomfortable for the user.
Question: The PPPOE connction only crash’s, if there is no answer from the client?
One device set his own MAC address in every paket, so that all user be the same for PPPOE server.
This crashed the connection. I get a new device, and install it… there a no problems…
