I have been using routerboard 500 with MT OS 2.9.10 as pppoe concentrator.
I have set the MTU of pppoe interface 1460 in some and 1480 in some of the routerboards. I am experiencing problem such as browsing stops for few seconds and MSN messenger disconnects frequently.
Is there anything that I can do to enhance the service.

Wired or wireless clients?
wired clients, we have ethernet connection going to the clients

We have a HBT shaper in the same LAN as the mikrotilk, and we are doing shaping from it. The problem is that client connected to mikrotik cannot browse smoothly, they often get page cannot be displayed message, and browsing stops during that time.
Could be an issue with MSS or any other settings?
Try setting MTU 1492 and MRU 1492 in PPPoE server
Try to Change MTU at the clients ,
Get DRTCP and change the MTU of the Clients ,
I hade the same problem …
If you can open Site http://www.microsoft.com - than you do not have to change the clients MTU , And if Not than You must Change MTU to the Clients..
I did change the client’s MTU using DRTCP, but it did not help too. I have got so fed up with disturbances in browsing, that I am planning to remove all the MTs and instead go with freebsd pppoe servers instead.
The browsing gets stuck for a while very frequently like in every 2 mins.
