PPPoE & RB1100AHx2

Hello,

We are small ISP and are being forced to switch from DHCP to PPPoE through our ADSL wholesaler. I’m not that family with MikroTik and RouterOS but given our low budget and the good things I’ve heard in forums I was hoping it would fit the bill. We have about 500 users and need a PPPoE server for all of them. Has anyone tried that many with a RB1100AHx2? Will it work? Also is their a way to cluster some RB11000AHx2s together to provide high available and/or load balancing? My initial search say no, but I want to double check.

If you want failover for the PPPoE server, due to how PPPoE functions, all you need is 2 PPPoE servers on the network. The first server to answer the PADI will complete the PPPoE request.

If one of the PPPoE servers goes down, it doesn’t matter, since the second one will still answer PADIs. If both answer the PADI, the client will simply pick the one who answered with PADO first.
