PPPOE server bandwidth

i want to use mikrotik as pppoe NAS for users in my network.

test configuration:
Mikrotik router have 2 100Mbit intrfaces - LAN and SERVERS. Pppoe concentrator binded to LAN interface.

Users --(100Mbit)-- LAN interface → Mikrotik pppoe concentrator – SERVERS interface --(100Mbit)-- File Server.

pppoe works fine, but it is a problem with connection speed -
downloading from SERVER to USER is about 25-30 Mbit/s. Why?
and same speed from USER to USER - 25-30 Mbit/s…

How can i utilize all network speed? (100 Mbit/s) ??

Are you sure that your router hardware can handle it? Check System > Resources for CPU usage

same problem. Try RASPPPOE , I guess result will be the same.

mmm… try to test raspppoe as concentrator or as client to mikrotik?

Client to MikroTik. I would never reccomend an alternative product to RouterOS. I would rather go to Latvia and MAKE THEM fix the bugs :smiley:

im tried raspppoe on windows machine and speed is increased greatly.
now it is 65 Mbit/sec and ~6k packets/sec. and 100% CPU load at 950MHz CPU on mikrotik concentrator.

so results:

  1. for normal operation i should install ~3GHz CPU.

  2. Windows have bad pppoe driver which limits speed at 30Mbit/s

  3. i found another bug -
    i tried to measure CPU load vs bandwidth dependence.
    i fix limit speed at pppoe profile and try measure download speed and cpu load.
    but i found that speed limits doesn’t works at speed > 10 Mbit/s. simple queues too.
    i try 20-30-40-50-60-70M limit and real speed was at 6-15M. on 80-90-100 limits speed was 65M and make 100% cpu load…

so it is only way to recommend clients to instal raspppoe if they wants more spped?

I wonder how come CPU usage is 100%.

problem solved when i reboot the server.

now i have 70-75Mbit/s at 40-50% cpu load.

i have 40 users using PPPoE connection. here is the problems :
Connect Broadband Connection/Dial PPPoE – > Succces Login – > after login in several minutes they were cut off/connection loss.

please let me know about this case.

Migrate to PPTP in the meantime.
