I have setup pppoe server with multiple services with Mikrotik 2.8.26 and 2.8.22 versions. Hardware is Intel MB, P4 2.4 GHz , Intel gigabit and fastethernet ethernet cards and 512 MB RAM. OSPF is also configured and working for backbone routing. AAA is via radius server - radius attributes for reply are Accend-Data-Rate, Framed Ip Poool or Framed Ip Address, etc… All users can connect and recieve all needeed attributes and surf internet. But, after users count is rising, say more than 20-30 simultenius users at AC, things are going to wrong direction… Cpu load is floating between 0 and 100%, trafifc to/fom clients cannot pass even with small packets (icmp) , or sometimes stop, sometimes go. In fact , setup is useless.
I have also another 3 Mikrotik pppoe servers - 2 with version 2.6.12 and one with 2.7.20. All they are working flawless - no problem at all. I have 700 simultenius users per pppoe server. Cpu load is stable under 50%. Setup is identical as the 2.8.x servers. Hardware is much low end than the new pppoe server with 2.8.x versions (AMD Duron 1000, noname MB, networc cards , 256 MB ram ).
How can that be ? What is wrong with 2.8.x pppoe server stuf ?
There is no big difference in overall pppoe server configuration between 2.6.x and 2.8.x versions.
I test latest beta - still no success - pppoe concentrator became unstable after 200 simultenius pppoe sessions - cpu 100% and sporadic traffic thru pppoe interfaces.
Anyone who is using MT as pppoe AC ? All you have not problem with MT pppoe server under many sessions and high cpu load ?
Both 2.8.22-26 and 2.9beta16 was a clean install from scratch. There is no wireless cards -
only ethernet. OSPF and Radius client parts of setup is working flawlessly. 80% of customers are using 64 Kbps
package. Nothing weird in the logs. Test setups of 2.8.x and 2.beta16
versions was a 24 hours full feature install without license keys. Well
working 2.6.12 and 2.7.20 versions are full featured licenses.
Yestarday i decide to downgrade on same hardware to 2.6.12 version and everything is working fine again. Now i have 2 RouterOs 2.6.12 boxes
loadbalancing incoming pppoe requests and connections . Both boxes have identical setup, just ip pools are different.
I need to upgrade to most recent version of RouterOs , because of better QoS and some other monitoring features.
I must implement differential qos services at edge of network.
You should send support-output file from the router taken at high CPU usage time to support@mikrotik.com.
There might be some problem in your configuration.
Point 4 from your support policy :
Give us your Invoice number, if you purchased MikroTik RouterOS™ online, or information about preinstalled system you purchased from us.
(Support is only for paying customers)
Free Demo License users should pay for the license to receive support.
Will i recieve support for problems on latest version of RouterOs, if i am evaluating with 24 hour demo ?
