PPPoE server on Routerboard - what is the limiting factor?

I’ve been warned about running PPPoE server on the “lighter” routerboards, as they’re not powerful enough.
What is the limiting factor, CPU or available memory for running the PPP package?

Does the load on the board scale up with number of clients all the way from zero, meaning an RB112 can handle just a few clients, or is this not worth trying?

CPU limits you - PPPoE uses a fair amount, and if you get simultaneous login attempts, the board can ‘freeze’ for a while & connection attempts may time out.

For a few clients, its ok…

Ok, for let’s say 5 clients?
If a login attempt is unsuccessful, the client will try again and again I assume?

Just for curosity, what is so CPU-consuming in the PPPoE server?

5 clients should be ok, but your other q - that you need to ask MT - it just is
