PPPoE Server problems

Hi all, What version of mikrotik do you use for you pppoe clients, and how many do you manage?
We have the same issue with v.2.6.12, v.2.8.28, v.2.9,6. when the connections go above 500 the cpu goes above 50% and above 700 users mashine ‘dies’. The hardware is P4(2.8)and AMD(2.6), gigabit lan, 30mbit traffic for server…
Any ideas are well appreciated.

please upgrade to the latest version and then check again.
Also send the support output file to support@mikrotik.com

that was very helpfull sugestion. I cant just upgrade and test, and throughout the test time (3 years now) to not be able to use one Mtik PPPoE AC for all our clients. :-/
So my question was what hardware, soft version, clients, traffic load do you use for your pppoe servers.
Thanks for your appinion.

Without any information on your configuration (this we get from supout files), then we can’t help you debug this.

After “a few” tests we manage to run 800+ pppoe users on one P4 machine and near 20mbits traffic, on the latest Mikrotik version.
That is great success compared to the “average” features that the software concentrators.
So my question is: Can Mikrotik run on 64bit Xeon? As it seems we almost reached the P4 limit. The situation is that we have 2000+ users online.
Should we look for hardware solution from Cisco or Huawei or you guys have some other suggestions.

Thaks for your time.

64Bit is not natively supported now. that is to say - we don’t use the benefits of 64Bit, HT, and all that. It will come in 2.10, i think even dual processors will be supported in 2.10 (due Q3, 2006)

edit: FYI the intel xeon64 actually works slower in the 64bit mode. it just works that way
