Hi all,
it is better to use as a pppoe server a powerful routerboard , for example a ccr, or many redundant less powerful routerboards? For example, for 100 customers is better one RB1100AHx2/CCR1009-8G-1S or three redundant and balanced RB2011UAS-RM?
Thanks.
Better to have more than one of any production device, but in case of this your best to have 2 devices in failover (with load balancing if you like).
I would recommend 2xRB1100AHx2, they will see you through some considerable growth, and a great price point.
I don’t have much experience with the RB2011 series so I can’t comment on those.
thanks for the reply, joegoldman; i have one pppoe server for every tower, but in some locations, where the number of customer is near 90-100, the cpu usage is high, therefore i’d like to install another with failover and load balancing; but i think that two RB1100AHx2 for 90-100 pppoe sessions is oversized. What do you think? Thanks.
The PPC chip is much better then the MIPSBE so the step from RB2011 to 1100AHx2 is an extreme one. I would only use an RB2011 for a startup tower of 10 or so clients. The 1100 could handel 100 easily.

This was the main step I was trying to push, you should move into PPC or TILE based routerBOARDS, mipsbe can run out quick once you start getting the processing like PPPoE x100
Thanks for all, i’ve decide to use the CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+ for all towers that have more than 90 pppoe customers.
