PPPoE Server stops working on RB150

Hi,

we’ve a networked Building with clients authentificating via pppoe.
We’ve a RB500 as headend and in the middle of the building a RB150
for segmenting the net. Both have a PPPoE Server running.
RB500 runs stable but the RB150 stops authentificating users after
a while (2-6 Weeks). The RB150 has at max 11 pppoe clients
to serve.

RB500 runs 2.9.39
RB150 runs 2.9.41

Release Notes doesn’t mention pppoe after 2.9.41 so I do not update.

Any hint’s? Autoreboot each night?

Hi STE

All versions of MT supports PPPoE Server, as long as you have a sufficient license.

Your problem is more than likely the CPU limitation of the RB150. I had problems with as little as 10 PPPoE sessions on RB1xx series boards.

I reckon you wanted the 3 miniPCI interfaces. I would suggest purchasing a RB532(A) and a Daughterboard 502 to accomplish the same thing. Or, wait for the RB333’s to come out, as they have 3 miniPCI slots, and are apparently 2-3 times faster than RB532A’s.

Hi,

the Cpu was not the problem. The board shows additional problems
with an Ethernetport, so I think this was the problem.

Stefan

So your problem has been resolved by replacing the board?

Yes. Plugged in a spare 532. Works without problems. So I do not change back
to 150 Board.

I am still positive your problem had something to do with the CPU of the RB150. Try setting up a test bench to simulate your current setup. You’ll find the 532 handles the load way better than RB150. Just my bit

Hmmm. In my opinion the slower cpu can slow down the connections. But why should the pppoe-server
hang? If you put a slow cpu in your pc it’s getting boring but it runs. And 175Mhz to 399Mhz is’nt that
much more power.
