PPPoE User Profile Change

Right now if under secrets you change a PPPoE users profile it does not take effect until you bump that user offline. It would be nice if it immediately took effect.

Matthew

you mean that it would be nice that you bumped the user offline automatically when you altered a secret?

i disagree!

I suppose he meant that changing (for example) the users’ bandwidth assignment via changing the profile.

But I agree with Sten that changing this on the fly would possible create to much trouble. And after all, switching profiles might mean that the users’ ip address could change, which wouldn’t work without logging out/in anyways…

When a user goes from a profile that is set at 128k/512k to one that is 128k/768k I would like that change made automagically without having to go to interfaces in the router to disconnect them. We often move users to a profile of 0/0 when they do not pay there bill and some of our people who take care of billling do not realize this does not take effect until the user is booted offline. I see the point on an IP change throwing a wrench in this though.

A better solution. When editing a ppp/secret have an “Apply Now!” which boots them offline after the change. Or name it something that makes sense.

You can modify the queue settings on the fly, without disconnecting anyone.

It also shouldn’t be too hard to come up with a periodic script that compares queues to profiles, and adjusts queues as needed,

You can modify the queue settings on the fly, without disconnecting anyone.

You used to be able to do this in Winbox but in the latest versions that abillity has gone away.

A script like you say would be good. If it cannot modify there queue just bump them off if there datarates don’t match.

Matt

It doesn’t work in Winbox, but it does on the command line (and in scripts).
