pppoe vs dhcp

hi,
what is the advantages of using pppoe over dhcp? meaning that if i put a dhcp server in place of a pppoe server on my wlan1 and my clients then connect to it without using pppoe.

i know security wise pppoe is safer (encryption) but with dhcp you can also use mac authentication/access list etc thus it is safe as well. you just cant use encryption.

unless i am wrong, pppoe has much more overheads than dhcp as well as more packet loss on bad connections thus this will negate the advantages pppoe has over dhcp.

can anyone advise me or shed some light on the subject?

PPPoE is much more secure than DHCP

Mac authentication is a black cat where PPPoE log in is a nuclear bomb.

Mac authentication is a wooden door with a dead bolt that any 2 bit hack can break into. Where PPPoE authentication is like a bank vault.
