PPTP and "No Internet Access"

Hi there,

I successfully configured PPTP on RouterOS 5.19 and able to connect client (Windows 7) to RouterOS through VPN PPTP, and also I’m getting internet access and able to browse online. But there is a strange issue although internet is reachable but under “Network and Sharing Center” it says “No Internet access”. I was investigating this problem but with no success.

I need to know what are the best configurations for:

  • Install PPTP server to allow remote users connect to VPN through it
  • Allow users to access internet with no issue (Even no confuse messages).

Thanks

Probably a question best posted in a Windows forum since it is Windows that seems confused.

You can read here

and here

How windows determines internet access.

Actually I did the same configuration in CentOS and it works fine with no issue as I configure the internet access by:
1- Forward IP packets
2- NAT Masquerading

And Windows shows “Internet Access” message.

Thanks mrz, I went through this and did investigate before I post here as I already tried to trace http://www.msftncsi.com/ncsi.txt but couldn’t cache any trace.

Actually I wonder what should be done to properly configure RouterOS to act as PPTP server and to pass internet traffic to PPTP clients.

Many thanks.
