PPTP Client/Server between two Mikrotiks

Hello quick question.

I have two Mikrotiks, one is a PPTP server and the other is a PPTP client. the PPTP client has got an IP address from the PPTP server. If i connect to the PPTP server using windows VPN i can browse the internet from behind that IP address.

When i connect the second Mikrotik as a PPTP client i cant ping 8.8.8.8 or get out from behind the PPTP interface or the IP address, but i know it works because i tested it on my windows machine.



Anyone got any ideas how to get it working?

Hi Matt,

Make sure of two things:

  • does the client ping on server’s WAN ip address? If no, check if client’s active default route is the one via tunnel.
  • does the client ping on server’s gateway? if no, check your NAT rules.
