PPTP Failure?

I have a MT 750 v5.25 which has PPTP and has been working fine (with Win7 client). Recently it seems to be having problems.

  1. With the VPN established I cannot open Winbox which works fine when I connect to the public IP.
  2. Putty is now giving me messages about ‘incoming packet was garbled on decryption’ and suggested changes to its settings have not helped. Putty works fine when on the LAN.
  3. Surfing while connected to the VPN fails. I can do a Google search, view the results but when I click on any of them nothing happens.
  4. When I go to my bank’s website I get a browser error about a certificate problem which I do not get outside the VPN.

I saw a couple of other posts about something similar in that any traffic to https failed while on VPN but there was no response to them as of yet.

I have read that PPTP is now considered unsecure and will soon change, but for now does anyone know the cause of the issue? Nothing has changed that I know of unless it is because of a windows update.

Thanks in advance. All suggestions appreciated.

When the ros connect to vpn server,it’s gateway has been changed to the vpn server, your winbox connection to the pub ip has been routed to the vpn server,so…

Hi lipeng001,

Could you give a brief on how to fix this issue? This is the same issue I have had since upgrading Mikrotik to latest packages. So assume something changed but can’t figure out how to get it working properly again.

I’m not having issues using winbox but am having issue surfing the web accessing https pages or secure ports as in encrypted connections when using pptp vpn.

thank you.

Thanks for your reply but maybe I did not make it clear.

Without the VPN and connecting to the public address, Winbox works.

With the PPTP VPN and connecting to the private 192.168.x.x address, Winbox fails to open.
