PPTP VPN problem strange dhcp

I have established a PPTP vpn connection from my xp machine to a 532 router. but I can not see past the 172.16.16.1 (default gateway)interface to devices on the net work. I’ll so get a strange IP setup … x.x.x.1 should be the gatway and there are no leases showing in the lease table for this network. I have tried it both through my fire wall and with a direct connection to the net. same results. there are no firewall rules in place yet.

PPP adapter Virtual Private Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.16.103
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.16.103
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 204.16.147.1
204.16.144.131
Is this ip setup normal and if so why and where is it comming from and any ideas as to why I can not acess other divices on the 172.16.16.x network?

have you set that all your networking goes through that pptp connection?

Yes everything should be going throught the connection. I did notice that in the PPP section of winbox I discovered the address I’m getting, from the pool but it seems it is NOT provided by dhcp, as per ipconfig and there is no lease under dhcp.

Should you be getting this setup with vpn? where the gate way is the same as your address and the sub net is 255.255?

Oddly enough I seem to be able to see devices on the the other network that is on this routher 192.168.17.x
