How do you plan to sell your hotspot manager?
Will it be accessible only from you or can we buy it to install it on our own servers?
How much will it cost?
HotSpot Manager will be subscribtion based application. It will be located on our server. The monthly cost is not know yet, but it will be very low in comparision with similar products.

Why not sell it as an ISO image for people to download and install on their own systems?
You could compile the PHP code and require registration key bound to i.e an IP.
The latency to Latvia can be too big for people in different parts of the world to accept.
there is a plan (depending on the popularity of the system) to make a mirror server, that you could put on your network and it would synchronize data with our server.
then, the next crazy idea is that you could connect all those mirror servers to make a network where each of these servers would synchronize with the closest one (so that all of them don’t connect to our main server).
ideas, suggestions?
ISO image would be better, since not all WISP would like to disclose that they are using Mikrotik Equipment. They would also like to brand it according to their logos etc.

This means that corporate confidential data (like user’s address, users count and so on) and security information (user names, passwords) will be avaliable all over the world?
well if you put it that way - it already is - the hotspot manager that we have now, all your routers with public ip’s etc.
“IF” there will ever be such system, of course these problems would be solved with encrypting and securing all data.
but this is all ideas, maybe you have some better ideas?
I don’t. But for me the only way do solve problems with latency, security and so on is to have an own box with the billing and accounting software in it.
as that is a radius server on a linux system with specific configuration, and many of our users prefer turnkey solutions - they wouldn’t like to install anything. of course, we will think about it and nothing is yet decided.

Replicating of your PostgreSQL database is kinda a good idea but this would have to be unique databases for each of the users.
See, you cannot encrypt the user data in sql since it then would not work with encrypted PPP logins.
And a freeradius server can talk to one database only.
This will make replication of individual databases impossible since you would not have more than one.
You could set up jailed enviroments with one db/radius server on each of the jails so every customer would have his own unique database. Or you could just get a blade server for each new installation.
But those sound like hackish solutions…
I am sure someone will soon code something similar and sell it to people if you dont…

maybe you’re right. but no software will ever exist which you will not need to debug. so there is no disadvantage here.
plus it’s a beta, so you can’t expect it to be perfect (yet:)
Well, even better, it could be like Microsoft - you pay $200 every few years for a new version that never works properly … and live with the bugs.
