Folks,
I seen a post some time ago about this and can’t seem to find it. I bookmarked it at one time but my laptop crashed so I lost the link.
What I have is a 5 Mbps link to a small community which is shared between business and residential customers which has a break down of about 80% residential customers. What I want to do especially during the business day is prioritize the business customers over the residential customers. We run hotspot to authenticate and control access for each customer.
So I would give say 1.5 Mbps to the business customers and the balance to the residential customers. Most times, the remainder of the bandwidth is unused so when it is available, the business customers could access the balance and make their speeds faster. In turn, i would also do the same for the evenings where most people are home and they can also access ALL the bandwidth available but still prioritizing the business customers.
In the previous post, one member had suggested using a seperate subnet for the business customers and setting it to a higher priority vs the residential customers subnet. The issues that are not clear to me is that if I set a simple queue for each subnet and the customer logs in through hotspot which also creates a dynamic simple queue, which queue takes effect first? Is it the one that I inserted for the subnet with a higher priority for the business customers or is it the one which has been inserted dynamically through hotspot? Also, how do you have the business customers access the unsused bandwidth when it is available?
if anyone knows it, sending me the link would be greatly appreciated.
