Probelms with RB532 on Ether1

We installed 3 CPE with RB532 (all bridged with cm9 5213). On the wireless side all looks ok, since we have 20 Mb/s on the PtMP.

We are using of course Poe on a 5/10 meters length cable.

But connecting several PC, one at each time, reveals a problem, they can just transmit or receive 500kb/s or 1,700kb/s. This is checked through bandwidth and/or downloading a file through the wireless network.

But with 1 laptop we have 25 Mb/s. Same cable, all the same, we switch it back to other PCs and we have that lower speeds…

If we put a hub in the midle (between the poe splitter and the PC connected), then the lower speed goes up to 2,5 Mb/s.

this in all the 3 cases, and with at leats 5 different PCs.

I spoke with support, but it looks like … I am the only one.
anybody else is having this behaviour ?

thanks
Gianluca

I am having an issue that is similar, but not exact. I have a switch and a hub connected to each other. The switch is where all MTs get connected to and we achieve a max of 6Mbps from the MT on Ether1, but on Ether2 and Ether3, we achieve as high as 90Mbps. Tried connecting directly to a PC and got the same speeds. Tried forcing the port speeds to 10HD, 10FD, 100HD, and 100FD, and got all similar results – max speed around 6Mbps on the first port. I can’t come up with an answer to this. Anybody else?

BTW, this is on RB532, versions since 2.9beta16 or 17 I believe, and included the prototype boards as well as the production boards.

apparently ether1 is using a different microprocessor. this is the difference. talking to MK support they say that I am the only one reporting this problem. now we are 2.

for me, with my laptop, we can have full speed, but with several other PCs this is very low, in some cases as low as 300kbs

Note, that some laptops ethernet ports aren’t running at full speed that’s why on some laptops you could get lower speed… And also how did you measure this speed?

The testing was done using the MT bandwidth tester for my results. It was done after noticing slower than expected speeds on the link.

situation is like this on my case:

we are downloading from 3 internet sites at the same time and everytime we do it with my laptop we have 320 KB/s that is exactly what we deliver as internet access. With all other PCs we just have 80 KB/s. We tried several times and this is not due to the internet sites … I know what you all would say

Then we tried the bandwidth tester (the program downloaded from mk page and installed on windows) and results were strange. My laptop was giving 26Mb/s one direction, 1,8 the other. Other laptop were giving 1,2Mb/s one direction and the other 0,3 Kb/s

Then we uninstalled all for the building back to the lab. Tests indicate the same, but with a swicth in the middle looked a bit better for other PCs (maybe going up to 2Mb/s)

We just received 30 units of rb512, you can imagine that all this will stop mk rb to be installed as far as the problem is not solved.

any idea Uldis ?

just another point:

for me if we have 20 Mb is ok, so we do not need full speed but yes at leats 2 Mb on the CPE and 20 on the base station …

you can try switching OFF auto-negotiation feature of ethernet interface and forcing it to 100MBit full duplex. We have met situations like this in past with 3Com cards connected to Cisco gear (catalysts and 3xxx and 2xxx routers). Changing cards to Intel Pro/100 or setting ports to forced operation without auto-nego gave us full throughput.

are talking about setting on rb or on PC ?
and at the end did you manage to solve teh probl on rb500 ?

try RB first, client PCs after that.

We didn’t use RB, we used normal ATX Celeron desktops with PCI 3Com 905 or Intel Pro/100 cards. Simply the autonego feature is somehow broken and doesn’t work correctly, but this is not problem of MT software.

well, we tried it all in our tests with RB500 and RC4 and RC5 (not yet RC6).
but it didnt help at all.

and if we have 2 different hardware and same problem, maybe is the mk software ?
