Problem, Howto upgrade a Omnitik with no winbox connection

Hi to all, here is my first post.

I need to update my omnitik but I can´t do.
I can´t connect with winbox because it don´t have any ip and by mac I have the next error: could not connect to … port 20561 timed out. I tried with secured mode and without secure mode in winbox with the same result.
I can connect to my routerboard (ppoe server) and there I can do Mac Telnet to my omnitik, I tried to add an ip to ether1 and wlan but unfortunately I continue can´t connect with winbox and I can´t connect with ftp client to update the routeros into files.

Very tired I went phisically to the omnitik and I connect directly to ether1 but the conection with winbox closed automatically anfter some seconds and the routeros file didn´t finished tring some times.

Please help!! Thanks

Try connect the omnitik with ether 2 => 5
Disable firewall on your pc

Plisken may be right but essentially it depends on how you have set the omnitik up before. You might have set it in the way that it prevents any login… In this case you would need to make reset and use some other port than ether1 for Mac login.

If you are able to Mac telnet from other device then you can set whatever you need.

I need to go so high to cennect to other port because I connect the cable down that goes directly to port one.

I didn´t it, I could do login with no problem but unfortunately I can´t. Its only disabled neigbour discovery in wlan port.

I can do mac telnet but unfortunately I don´t know what I can do to update it. I tried the next things:

  • I added ip address to wlan1 and ether1 with the same range of my local ip and try to connect with a ftp client (filezilla) to transfer the update file and the reboot. Unfortunatelly the filezilla shows no response from the ip. I tried to use webfix with the news ip, same error, no answer, winbox return the same, no answer. Fianlly I remove the ips.

  • In my ppoe server I tried to add a name for the omnitik, after added it, the same problem, no answer.

My network diagram is:

Internet → rb750(ppoe server / nat) → sxt(bridge - NO IP) → sxt(bridge - NO IP) → ether1(NO IP)-OMNITIK -radio(NO IP) → sxt lite (where I am working to try to resolve the problem)

Finally I found a solution, using mac telnet I added a ppoe client and once the conection was established I updated and upgraded the omnitik and one of the sxt in bridge.

I have some questions:

  • Is a good praxis to have a ppoe conection over the omnitik and sxts (in bridge) to the core router?
  • The Omnitik have around 32 sxt conected to the radio, sometimes I have problems and when I added a new one sxt to be conect to omnitik the connection is not possible until I reboot the omnitik. What is the limit of sxt connected to the omnitik?.

Hope you have 64mb version of omnitik. According to my experience the 32mb versions behave somewhat weird. There is no technical limit other than your settings at wireless tabs. Don’t you think that it’s going to be the time to start thinking about the split to sectors?
You have to take care about the transmission power of all sxts to keep them all at the same receiving level on omnitik otherwise one client with problematic link quality will throw down all others.

Yes its the 64mb of ram model. I´m planning to do the sectors but I need to have the physicall place for the new nodes. What would be in your experience the maximum number of clients connected to an a omnitik? . In other way what I need to see exactly about the transmmision power of the sxts, because I have 2 clients receiving very low signal in agree with the backside leds of the sxts.

Leds are not so important. See the registration tab on omnitik if all clients have high ccq and approximately the same received signal level on omnitik. The maximum number of clients depends on the traffic then. Ccq is relevant only under some traffic load. Without the load it can show faulty low values that do not mean low link quality.
