I have a Mikrotik CCR1072 and a CCR1036, both running PPPoE servers. The problem occurs during power outages, when we experience a massive disconnection of clients (around 1,000). When the clients try to reconnect, the PPPoE sessions cannot be re-established. The PPPoE authentication cycle never completes, and the only way to recover is to physically reboot the router.
Has anyone experienced this issue or knows what might be causing the PPPoE server to stop accepting new sessions after a massive disconnect?
Probably your pppoe server do more than just pppoe...
Hi,
Could you answer at least to: What ROS version do you use?
7.20.x has some problems with PPPoE AFAIK.
Router 1072 is running version 6.49.10 and only has the PPPoE server configured on a 10G interface. Fast Track is enabled, there is no NAT, and only a couple of firewall rules. It's all very simple. There are 1012 clients currently connected.
Router 1036 has fewer clients (approximately 750) because it was necessary to enable another server in parallel to avoid this issue. Its version is 6.49.6, and the PPPoE server runs on a bridge composed of a pair of 10G interfaces. CG-NAT is enabled.
What's striking is that the same thing happens on both routers, despite having different configurations, hardware, and versions. The clients are GPON, with symmetric bandwidths of 50 Mbps to 300 Mbps.
wht is the cpu usage of mtik at tht time. disable “only one” for time being and check. Looks like there is radius at backend for AAA
the CPU usage is very low. Only one is disabled. I have to wait for it to happen again, but I suspect the problem is with the IP pools. I've attached a screenshot of the log when it occurs.
