Problem with entering license key

Can anybody tell me what is the exact procedure for v3.10 to enter license key?

I have installed v3.10 from ISO to my desktop PC.
I have used brand new Kingston CF 128MB card with IDE-CF adapter.
I have obtained from the reseller mail with software key for my Software ID:
-----BEGIN MIKROTIK SOFTWARE KEY------------

-----END MIKROTIK SOFTWARE KEY--------------

I have entered it according to:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Entering_a_RouterOS_License_key

Result was always the same - when I provide this key, system responds with:
“System must reboot before new key takes effect. Reboot ? [y/N]”

After the reboot I see the info: “Your router does not have any valid key”…
I tried import key from the file - the same result…
I tried CF card at different PC, changed CF-IDE adapter, changed BIOS settings for CF card (LBA/CHS/AUTO) - no progress…after the reboot countdown continues and prompt for license key is printed.

Reseller claims the SOFTWARE KEY I use is correct and matches Software ID I provided to them…

Any ideas ?

Just paste the key into the terminal, should ask for a restart. That it. If it works, then your license will be valid, if it does not match (the software id) then it won’t and thats the prob.

  1. Just to confirm

Should I paste complete block:

-----BEGIN MIKROTIK SOFTWARE KEY------------

-----END MIKROTIK SOFTWARE KEY--------------

or only the software key sting ?

  1. I tried to import the key from file. I created the file containing software key and send it to CF.
When I use command /system license import file-name=XYZ (where XYZ is my file) I receive output:
    failure: no new key found

  2. Is there any way I could confirm/validate the pair I have ? (SoftwareID + Software Key).
I trust the reseller, but maybe somebody made a mistake during the process?

first of all make sure that the license key is issued for x86 machine.
The license key is different for Router Board and x86 machine.

If you paste the key and if it ask for reboot, that means the key is correct for the Software ID. otherwise it will give you message that the Key is NOT valid while you paste it.

Just make sure…

I asked reseller to double check the key, mentioning it must be for x86 router.
I have received a new key for the same Software ID, which was accepted by the router during first attempt
So looks like regardless of my note at purchase order, this information was lost somewhere and I received license key not suitable for x86 machine.

Thanks for good hint ashish!
