Problem with Huawei E3372 4G modem

with ppp mode you will not get more than approx 25mbps because the ppp emulation. If you would have lte interface with dhcp-client there is no such limitation.

yeah that’s what i thought too
bad luck for me so

well i will exchange the E3372h with a 3AT WebGate3 tomorrow and that will run in bridge mode. i tested this shortly with the Webgate3 (ZTE LTE Router) of a friend of mine and bridge mode worked flawlessly (Firmware B09 H3G Austria)

i will share efforts ASAP when i got my own to tangle it up with my MikroTik hardware :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: hehe

thanks for the feedback so far

so i returned the E3372h to H3G Austria (3AT; drei.at)
unfortunately they haven’t got any Webgate3 in stock today so i have to wait for one this week.

i’ll let you know how the progress with it in BRIDGE mode is going

so i got my drei.at (H3G AT; 3AT) WebGate3. today (ZTE LTE Router Cat.4)
to my luck there was the newest firmware already on it (B09)
so i activated the SIM card and went online with it!
i activated “Open Internet” via the online drei.at customer center and after 10-15minutes it was ready to work (this feature enables the official WAN IP in the LTE net to be “handed over” to the CPE instead of a private 10.x.x.x IP!!)

i then disconnected the LTE connection on the ZTE webinterface, switched to BRIDGE mode on the LTE router… be sure to set the connection mode to “Automatic” on the ZTE CPE!

i connected a RB951Ui 2HnD to it (ZTE [LAN1] ↔ RB951 [ether1])
created a DHCP-client for ether1 and boom i was online.
i now have my routerboard online with a dynamic official WAN IP in the LTE network and via the MikroTik cloud (IP > CLOUD > ENABLE) it’s reachable like a charm!

L2TP/IPsec VPN > works
PPTP VPN > works
Portforwarding > works
SSH > works

EDIT:
OpenVPN also works like a hell of a charm! deactivated PPTP & L2TP/IPsec therefor!!

so finally i can say “bye bye” to my old ADSL provider (A1 Telekom Austria)

Hey guys,

qustion, what are now the recommended mode for the e3372s Stick to run it along with a mikrotik?
I have at the moment a e3372s in modem mode and i will try to flash it into HiLink mode if it is necessary.
I couldnt get an connection at the moment while the stick is in modem mode? Dont know why.
I use an RB2011

Will run it with higher speeds above 50mbits so i think the hilink mode is the only possability or?
Have the router the normal WAN IP address when the stick runs in the hilink mode?

Thanks and best regards
RyperX

as far is my experiences with USB (in common) on RB2011 board goes, they are very buggy
i got my huawei USB modem exchanged by my ISP to a ZTE LTE mobile router (in austria → 3AT Webgate3) and i configured the ZTE router to bridge mode and since then no problems with it.

i never got a USB modems running clean or stable on RB2011 (no problems on RB951 thou)

Hey guys,

an update i got my stick working in the hi-link mode (stick is his own router)
The problem is now the mikrotik would get the private ip from the stick over dhcp and not the official wan ip.
Is there any way to get this working? In this way i cant configure the connection for port forwarding.

Regards
RyperX

try DMZ

i tried a ZTE MF831 last weekend with LTE uplink
worked so far … still i returned back to my trusty ZTE Webgate3 from 3Austria in bridge mode

@matloh,
Have you fixed this very problem?

Hi,
i am thinking about to get the 3webgate, but on the 3 page i see the Modem dont support bridge mode (bottom of page)
https://www.drei.at/portal/de/privat/handys-und-geraete/alle-geraete/geraetedetails/3huigate.html
Is this wrong? I really wanna use the wan ip on the mikrotik

This is not possible with the E3372 and the Hilink software.
Limitation of the modem, not the router.

the 3webgate3 from ZTE is no longer produced
now the have the 3HuiGate which is manufactured by huawei … so there is no bridge!
if you need the bridge mode … use the 3HuiTUBE! it’s a ZTE device and there you have the possibility to switch to bridge mode.
cheers

Mmmh ok, at the moment there is a promotion that you get 300mbit till October, so i thought about the 300mbit.
But i also found no cheap product for 300mbit and bridge mode. I will check the HuiTube
Did the old Webgate Support 300mbit?
→ Found my answer: No
Another intersting thing, the old WebGate only had 100mbit RJ45 Connection, how it should be possible to get the 150mbit to one device?

Thanks for you infos

PS: I would contact you per PN but the forum has no message system anymore or i cant find it?

Any update here?

I am using OpenWRT with the NCM Driver and ppp is working fine and as i know the 150mbit would be possible,
Also you recieve the NAT IP on the Router

the huitube has a 1gbps ethernet port AFAIK
i don’t know i do not use the PN system in the forum

I got one of thoese E3372h modems, it was working but I had it connected to my Asus router and there were some disturbances due to modem was configured as router.
I wanted to remove router functions from the modem, and before I found good ways to change it, I did a faulty configuration in HiLink modem settings.
I changed the default IP from 192.168.8.1 to 192.168.1.3 and I also removed the DHCP settings.
After this nothing hapens, I can not access the HiLink any longer, I can not configure it back to original settings.
Beside that, the 4G connection I already had (violet LED constant on) it is now disabled internet, the green is blinking twice every 2 seconds, meaning it is only powered on. No connection what so ever even with OK Sim card installed.

I find no open Ports in my windows PC when looking in control panel, device manager.
It does not respond to any of the IP addresses I try to enter.

Anyone know how to go further to recover this modem? Can I reset it back to original settings, or even continue with the PPP modem firmware change?
Or is it ready to be trash-binned?

I have came across same issue as above. I have RouterOS ver 6.36.2 (Current) and Huawei E3372 4G modem in ppp mode.

It also crashes after some time when transfers moderate amount of data.

Error message in ppp interface I get is: “Status: terminating… - peer is not responding”. Script automated reboot helps BUT it is hard to work this way for a longer time.

This is quite popular modem and worked just fine with basic TP-Link router.

Any permanent solution?

We have experienced that, with consumer modems. Sometimes modem firmware hangs and you need to power reset usb modem.

Glad to read direct info from MikrotikSupport.

Well, as I wrote in consumer TP-Link router it was very, very rare.

In my Mikrotik model RB2011UAS-2HnD it is:

  • always when I try to pull data with highest possible speed (download from fast sites)
  • very often after downloading some data over period of time ex 1G in couple of hours

It is serious problem, it is not occasionally.

Again, any permanent solution found? Any root cause found?

Best stability we have seen when using usb powered hub and HiLink firmware.
