Problem with packet loss on my miktotik ruter :S

Hi, I have had many troubles past month and I tried to contact many people who know with mikrotik and no help.

I hope I will find some help here :S

First of all, my config:

  • I have direct gigabit link that comes from large Telekom Cisco router into my mikrotik wan card.
My Mikrotik is a desktop pc, Intel qore2quad q6600 cpu, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB hdd, 2x airlive Gigabit ethernet adapters.
My link goes to wan card, and lan card is connected to TPlink gigabit switch that has 16 100 Mbit ports.

I have 12 dedicated server boxes on that switch and I run game hosting that has many small UDP packets.

Now my problem begins at 130 Mbit upload, it cant process more, so I have loss packets and my game servers lags. :S

CPU in MT works on 45% in peek

Here are some graph pictures from today:

ethernet1:

see how upload can’t go more than 130 Mbit :S

and look how CPU is perfectly cut off :S

What should I do to get more than 130 Mbit upload on my MT ?
I have license Level 4.
On my winbox title bar it says Winbox v3.17 on x86 (x86) - shouldn’t it be x64 for Q6600 :S

I did not set it up, some folkes who were in Poland on MT course did it (Bus Computers, Kikinda, Serbia)

Please help
Is there some limitation or something I can set up, maybe it is CPU, it says 45 % but maybe it is more really :S

Thanks ahead

Can you PM me with your email address? I believe I may be able to help, but likely to be only by connecting to your box to diagnose the problem in realtime.

many small UDP packets? try to increase ‘ethernet-default’ (as on your ether interface) queue type size

too late
I have removed MT, it was the problem
I now use Cisco 3825 with Gbit card so it all works perfect

Igorkrnic,

If you do not understand something regarding MT, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work:)

It is useless to use q6600 on mt system. You should use the best core2duo available with pci-e gigabit lan. That will be your solution for many more megs than just 130M upload!

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t think that in general MT is bad, I said MINE MT was bad and to tell you the truth I was pointing on CPU too
Never mind that now, I had this cisco before my MT all the time so I thought to give it to route my lan addresses and now it is all fine

just posting our experience as well here. The MT router 8 cores dual quad 54xx based system and msi-x based quad port card installed – cant handle 130mbps of throughput. tried everything not much help. planning on going cisco for our customers as well. if anybody has any ideas let me know.

seriously there should be some best practice post for MT on ethernet-default etc - what should it really be with high end cpus so no lags and no drops ?
