Problem with PIA VPN

Hey everyone, I bought a mikrotik router a few years back and I haven’t touched it much other than initial setup. It might be pretty old, I honestly don’t even know the model of it, I will reply with it if needed. Either way, I set up the PrivateInternetAccess VPN following this exact guide: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/helpdesk/guides/other-hardware/mikrotik/mikrotik-pptp-2

However, only 512bytes up to a few thousand kilobytes actually go through this setting, and the device I set it to simply can’t connect to the internet. I tried this with my TV, PC, smartphone, so it’s not a problem with the device itself.

PIA support said it might be something with routeros/mikrotik and their servers and said I should contact you for further help.

Does anyone know a better router brand I can buy?

Hello,
which software version of RouterOS is running on your Mikrotik router?
Also, are there any other active settings in firewall (post results of “/export hide-sensitive” command).

Regards,
M.

Hi!

We need further information to distinguish between hardware failure or software misconfiguration:

  • What is the exact specification of your router (it might be written onto the router itself, front or back, or stated on the bottom side sticker)?
The device might be a “CCR1072” or “mAP lite”, or the board inside the case might be “RB133” or “RB532” or “RB411UAHR”, or the like.
  • What version of RouterOS is running on the device, in terminal, you should run the commands “/sys reso pr” and “/sys rou pr”, and paste the result here, please.
  • As soulflyhigh mentioned, you should give us the current configuration running the command “/export hide-sensitive”, and pasting the result here, as well.

After these pieces of information is available, we can come up with a probable solution.

I do not know any other router brand  Let alone, a better one than Mikrotik  Everyone knows in this forum, that "MikroTik is the BEST"™.
