Process monitoring (aka business-processes)

Hi all,

I’ve got a question, simply because I seem to have a hard time to get something working.

At our place the people want to monitor business processes.

For example: email

As we all know email depends on several working components/devices or services on them.

  • you’ve got your incoming connection from/to the Internet.
  • Firewall/Proxy
  • ISP Router
  • Core switches
  • Workgroup switches
  • Email server(-cluster)
    etcetc..

For VoIP we need PoE, working workgroup and coreswitches and a working telephony server/gateway.
For PoIP (PIN over IP) we need the PIN’s to work, workgroup and coreswitches.

Now we want to get more insight in this picture (I only mentioned a few and not all of them [I’m not that crazy..]).

My question to all of you is the following.
Is there an easy way to create something within the Dude which does this?

So, in case a workgroupswitch necessary for a (or multiple) PoIP device(s) fails, a label should turn red and the process of PoIP experiences some or total failure.
When the workgroupswitch on which our callcenter is connected fails, a label should turn red which states that the callcenter is unreachable.
When PoE on a workgroup switch fails, something should turn orange/red because part of the personel is no longer able to use VoIP telephony.

Can anyone of you tell me if there is a way to accomplish this within the Dude (v3.5)?
And if it isn’t possible yet, is the development team of The Dude considering to implement this feature in a new release?
I’ve heard many more engineers who are confronted with this request and I also know that there are tools able to do this but most are way too expensive (some go easily over €150.000,–. bit expensive right?).

So, maybe this is a good thing to implement within the Dude to make your name big..

I hope to hear from you.

Best regards,
Minollie

Hi guys,

Is there anyone with a suggestion how to make this working?

I’m still puzzled how to do this and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Minollie

The dude is no small project, there are an amazing amount of features in there.

If you put a single probe on a device when it fails it turns red. If only one probe fails the device turns yellow.
You could set up your devices so that there is only one probe on critical devices. Not the solution you are searching for.

IMO It would be better to create custom notification for each critical device with the text you want people to know. (We are doomed, the IP phone server crashed) You could also SMS text those messages with an execute function and an application through a usb connected cell phone so it will work even if the internet is down. This way you don’t have to be sitting at the screen to know something bad happened.

What do you need help with? From what I’m gathering from your post The Dude can do all of the described functions. You just have to setup the proper dependencies for the various services within The Dude.
