Process to get an upgrade license key for a routerboard

Excuse me if this is documented somewhere, but I’m a little confused (after reading the wiki and trying the upgrade process in my account).

I have a RB133 running v3.14. I’d like to run v5.4 on it now to use SSTP.
However the license does not allow upgrade from 3 → 5.

So, I’m happy to pay to get the ability to run the new firmware, but I’m not sure how to do it.

I have imported the key into my account at mikrotik.com, however when I attempt to buy an upgrade it says that I already have all the features. Well, true, except I don’t have the “run the latest firmware” feature !

Any pointers on how to resolve this are welcome.

Its a free upgrade. Just update your 133 to 4.17, then update to 5.xx

*4.17 seems to be the safe cause if you update to a lower 4.xx the CPU stays at 100% and its hell on earth to do anything on the board when this happens.

you don’t need to buy anything. just upgrade to v4.17 as suggested above, but you might be asked to click ‘update key’ button in System License menu of Winbox, to convert the license to the new format. Just make sure you follow instructions in Winbox after upgrading.
