I have an RB951-2n running ROS 6.29.1 FW 3.22. I am trying to configure the PPTP server in a way that does not require me to “use default gateway on remote server”. The remote site is fed by a sketchy DSL connection. Using the remote gateway slows me to a crawl when troubleshooting devices on that network.
Is this a site-to-site VPN between two Mikrotiks? If it is, set your default route to not route down the VPN.
When using PPTP to do a site-to-site VPN, you need routes on both side of the VPN to route packets destined for the remote networks down the VPN.
If it’s not a site-to-site, and it’s just a bunch of PCs connecting in via PPTP, then you have to set their VPN clients to not “use default gateway on remote network”. No routes needed when using client-to-site VPN.
