Proxy on External USB drive

I have many miniITX mikrotik systems around the country running a wifi ISP.

Mikrotik is currently sitting on 256MB CF cards with IDE adapters.

Is it possible to run a proxy on Mikrotik using and external USB HDD as the cache location?

if so any ideas on how?

Many thanks

Yes you can.

Attach your USB device, and it will be crecognised as a SATA device ( Not sure why the driver sees it that way, but it did for me)

Set tour proxt settings to point the files to the SATA device and you are in…

PS I am working on a lolution that will use MIRRORED internal SATA 3G drives in a rack mount with 5 Gigabit interfaces..

Out soon…

Ok get this one…

I was just verifying my last post…

I found that not all USB to XXX in this case USB to IDE bridges work with RouterOS…

It does seem that the VIA bridge device is seen as a SATA device, but the other bridge I have here is seen in system/resources, but it just confuses the web proxy subsystem and shows up a “unknown drive” and it disables / removes the system and “Sec-Pri” (I have two IDE drives on this test box)…

Anyways… a VIA usb to IDE bridge works

I will see if I can get the part numbers of the working bridge (It is not displayed in winbox, just its assignments)

Have a good one and help this helps..
