Hi guys, I’m thinking of building a PTP bridge link within ground floor and 1st floor. The first AP will be installed in a store room which is isolated(under staircase) and the 2nd AP will be installed at 2nd floor. There will be no line of sight for those AP, and due to the cost of laying cable around the home, I’m trying to cut cost by implementing PTP bridge link. The expected speed is around 200-250 mbits/s. Currently I have a RB951G-2HnD running as a router and AP(which is installed inside the isolated store room too). Please advise which model of hardware should I purchase for this situation. Thank you.
Do you want ptp wifi link thru isolated area with no los? No way. Use some ethernet power line adapters inside the building if you cannot run ethernet cable directly. Laying cable is cheaper than buying any devices and feeding them by electricity and taking care if they work or not.
Hi jarda, thanks for your suggestion. I shall look into it very soon ![]()
as strange as this might seem, i have done this exact thing a while ago due to not having the ability to run cabling within the house.
200Mbit throughput was not hard to obtain through the cement slab and piping etc. this was with a rb711 and antenna and a rb493G with a 52Hn card in 5Ghz. It performed better than powerline adaptors, im guessing due to powerline noise in a shared power situation.
Not the ideal scenario but it was very much functional for the purpose. Never skip the cat cable if you can though ![]()
Actually i was thinking of passing 802.11q trunk link via powerline but it seems like not every product support it. That’s why I’m considering PTP link. If 200mbit are achievable with 5GHz then i would go for PTP link for sure ![]()
