PtP wireless link design

Hi everybody,

I just discover the great products from MikroTik and I request your experience for my setup.

I would like to install a point-to-point wireless link between two houses.
The problem is the line of sight: there isn’t. :frowning:

Situation:
Distance between the two sites: 820 meters

House A:
altitude: 805 meters
antenna could be installed on the roof + 4 meters (809 meters).

Point 1:
altitude: 822 meters
No obstacles

Point 2:
altitude: 829 meters
Obstacles: houses and trees +5 meters (834 meters).

House B:
altitude: 824 meters
antenna could be installed on the roof + 8 meters (832 meters).

[House A]— 150m —(P1)----- 500m -----(P2)— 170m —[House B]

Do you think it could work ? And with which products ?

Thanks for your help.

2.4 should work on this distance without line of sight, but if you demand good bandwidth and response, you should make it visible however possible (long poles, different positions and so on).

Hi Acim, thanks for your reply.

I don’t need au big throughput.
10Mbps full duplex will be enough.

I have do somes estimates, the half of the Fresnel area will be occuped by relief and small hill.
And with the short distance, I think there’s no need of big output power.

Which product do your recommand for this design ?

SXT G 5HnD ?
Sextant G ?

5GHz equipment has more trouble with obstacles than 2.4GHz, so specially if you choose 5GHz equipment you have to be sure there is line of sight. SXT is good choise because 802.11n should work with reflections also.

10mbps full duplex is not low speed for 802.11b and is feasible with 802.11g, but again this is dependant on line of sight. Of course, 802.11a/n is capable of much more speed than 10mbps.

Ok, thanks. I better understand the limitations.

So, which product could do the job ?
