Ptp with RB711Ga, wich pigtail to wich port

Hi.

Im setting up a 200m link with 2x RB711GA 5Hn, the antennas are StationBox Mikro, they have dual polarity, so does the RB711.

I have followed the Transparent bridge with mpls/vpls guide. The wireless status page shows that we have 130 Mbit Tx, but only 6 Mbit rx
Sometimes it says 130/130.

However, the reallife transferspeeds between two computers at each end is only 3-5 Megabytes/sec one way, the other way its only 500 kb/sec. I was hoping for at least 10 MB/sec both ways.

So this makes me wonder if the mimo / DP is incorrect. Under the “HT” tab, wich chains should be used for what? And does it matter wich pigtails goes to wich port?
I see the Mac adress winbox uses for the RB are changing when i change the ports for the antennas.

And last, what transferspeed between two computers should I be getting?

Try to check all 8 HT AMPDU boxes and use long HT GUard interval. Does that help?

Update:
The tx/r rate now shows 270/6. But as soon as i start to transfer data between computers, rx jumps up to 168.
It now maxes out my 100mbit nics
Im not sure what caused the big difference, but I switched over to use “superchannel” and also selected higher channel width.

I also feel like drovning in configuration options here. Under the wifi protocol, what difference does nv2, nstreem, nv2 streem, and the others do? What is best for short distance high speed?

NV2 has the highest throughput. I’m not sure the guard interval or priorities helped you. I think you were on a busy channel and the channel change fixed your problem. I would put them back to default and use NV2. Also your signal strength is WAY too high. You need to turn down your power.

Do a frequency scan and see what’s being used around you.

It seems like the 5ghz band is not much used in my area. I couldnt see anything on frequence scans.

Also found out that using “20/40 HT above/below” enables the second channel. And i think this i what is necessary to get the highest speeds with dual polarity.

I was using a mpls transparent link at first, but have now configured the RBs like a regular ap-bridge and station-bridge. Link speed shows 300/300 under load. Falls back allot during idle, i guess this is the normal behaviour for NV2.

Any opinion regarding transparent links VS. ap/bridge ?

Im gonna use this on a short 200m length. Maybe adding a third point later (wich i think is easier with ap/bridge)

What will you be using the link for?

signal 2dbm

You think it’s too high?

doh, signal must be in -65…-40 for best results.

I was being sarcastic

In total we are gonna set up a link with 3x ptp to get highspeed internet connection to my home. From A to B (no direct LoS, so we have to separate it in three steps)
1: 1,5 km
2: 6km
3: 0.2 km

Its the last one (#3) im playing with now. When we get confident that this gear is working like it should we will go further.
The internet connection is 200mbit, so i general we want as high througput as possible over the Wireless links.

Here i can only get 2-3 Mbit ADSL line, so if we can get 20-30 Mbit over the wireless links I would be more than happy.

In the future maybe also set up some sector antennas and provide the neighbours here with internett also.

The signal strength is beause they where both in the same room. I have turned it down, but maybe not enough.
