PWR-LINE adapter speed is ?
100Mbit
HomePlug AV standard, to which conforms QCA6410 chip (supposedly used by PWR-LINE adapters), states around 80Mbps throughput on MAC layer. Possibly that’s half-duplex speed, so in reality one will get slightly less even in perfect power-wire conditions.
Can it use for 3 phase power Cabling house?
Means cross phase..
Avoid this product. The chip was put out in 2012 and performs terribly. Much better for electrical wiring is products based on the 2014 qualcom QCA7450 and the better still 2015 QCA7500 chip.
But wait, they dont have a USB attached. Someone has got you by the short and curlys… I am personally waiting for the “new” MT Bmax with usb cord attached and poe powered, yes even better than the latest technology, don’t rely on a computer chip thats so new school… instead the 1975Max with USB is your answer to replaying movies.
i own them. the BEST speed you will see is 70mbit.
really would like winbox to show the link speed of the powerline, it only currently shows via a cli command
You can, but max speed will be less than when used on same phase.
The newer chips and firmware with the QCA7500 work way better across circuits. (by newer I mean circa 2014/2015) as opposed to the one in the MT circa 2012. Of note no new chips for powerline have come out since the QCA7500.
I’ve seen a statement somewhere that the RF signal used to carry the Ethernet data has to be connected to the neutral wire because it is common to circuits using any of the three phases. So if you can observe a difference in throughput on the same socket-to-socket distance (electrical, of course) depending on whether the sockets are on the same phase or on different ones, it may be worth it to turn the plugs 180 degrees and try again. I don’t know your country - in some countries the position of phase and neutral in the socket is standardized and you can insert a plug with protective earth contact to the socket two ways, in others there is only one way to insert the plug and the position of the phase and neutral may be different than the one used in a multi-marked HomePlug product.
When two devices (PWR-LINE AP) is on the same power socket they go up to 94 Mbit TCP (one connection).. From my flat to hallway socket (around 20 metres of power wiring and through circuit-braker (same phase) it is around 53 Mbits stable.. 3-5ms.. It is usable..
We also have PWR LINE PRO with gigabit chipset
Hello,
I just got PL7510Gi which is rated for 600mbit with 1gbe interface . I did test it and I can only get 142mbit and this is in 2 different rooms next to each other.
I am not sure if or how I can get better speeds that that. If anybody can advise it would be much appreciated. Also to add, there are no power extensions or any other
elements before the power line adaptors, they are directly plugged in to the wall sockets.
Regards
G.
I’ve found powerline/homeplug gear is basically similar to WiFi in terms of expected IP throughput based on the PHY layer speed. By the time you account for error correction and retries you end up with about 1/3 the speed. For example under best conditions WiFi ‘n’ 300M yields 100M throughput.
Happy to be corrected by anyone with a different experience.
So under best conditions..
200M powerline is going to give you 66Mbps
500M powerline - 166Mbps
1000M - 333Mpbs
2000M - 666Mbps
And in reality it might even be less if you have a device plugged in the same phase circuit with a bad/cheap switching power supply generating noise.
