I’m looking to figure out how to PXE boot devices from a router.
Devices get a IP from the router.
Then get redirected to the server for the OS.
after getting this the device will release the IP Address it got from the router.
So, is it possible to do a PXE pass through on a Mikrotik router?
I haven’t tested the MikroTik DHCP Relay or the DHCP Server specifically for this.
PXE boot works by sending an option during boot to tell a device where to find an image to boot from amongst other things. In a Windows DHCP environment you likely have to enable the scope for both BOOTP and DHCP.
Wake on LAN redirection is another thing entirely with its own set of variables if that’s a need let me know.
Both PXE boot and Wake on LAN can safely and quickly done in a lab environment using Hyper-V built-in to Windows 10.
What exactly do you want to ‘pass through’?
It should work just as you described.
Just set Next Server and Boot File Name in ‘DHCP Server Networks’
