Quesitons about 802.3af/at and Omnitik

Hi,

I love Mikrotik hardware. The only let down is the passive PoE…
What is interesting (unless I am wrong here) is that the Omnitik has 802.3af/at compatible outputs but not input. Everything else is 802.3af compatible in that network and connected to the proper PoE gigabit switch.

I am planning to use Omnitik in bridge mode.

Since Omnitik AC is lacking 2.4GHz I need to get another device to cover that range. The problem is, most likely, it will not be Mikrotik device since it will require another cable to run from power source.

What are my options? I have 802.3af/at compatible PoE switch, but I am stuck with wall warts and running extra cables.
At this stage I already have 2 wall warts for Mikrotik devices, one for ISP provided CPE (which happens to be Mikrotik) and anther for Omnitik. I potentially will be adding another one for 2.4GHz range.

Is there anyway to split that passive PoE into two so I can power the second Mikrotik device?

Another question: what would be equivalent to Omnitik for 2.4GHz range?

Take a look at PowerBox

Thank you.

But: Only 100Mbit/s ports… Don’t really need another router.

Is there a dumb version of this that will do 1GbE?

Right now I am thinking of a device that takes proper PoE (802.3at spec) and splits into 24V output that can be re-injected as passive PoE for Mikrotik devices.

What is really odd is that at least for Omnitik 5 AC PoE, the device supports proper PoE out but not in :frowning:.

I also could do the following:

802.3af/at 1GbE switch → 802.3af/at 1GbE to passive converter → Omnitik 5 AC PoE → 802.3af/at 1GbE to passive converter → BaseBox 2

The switch can supply up to 30W so should be OK to drive both Omnitik 5 and Basebox 2…
This way I get no wall warts.

Does Mikrotik make 802.3af/at 1GbE to passive converter?

Now I am thoroughly confused:

It also supports passive or standard 802.3at/af PoE input/output. Ethernet ports 2-5 can power other PoE capable devices with the same voltage as applied to the unit. Less power adapters and cables to worry about! It can power af/at mode B (4,5+)(7,:sunglasses: compatible devices, if 48-57 input voltage is used.

I guess I will need to test this on the location by plugging it directly into the switch…

Can someone confirm that the “OmniTIK 5 PoE ac” does indeed supports 802.3at/af input. If it does, can it then have passive PoE output with 802.3at/af PoE input?

If it does both it is a great device! If it only also had 2.4GHz .

I just tested and Omnitik 5 AC PoE can be powered from 802.3af/at PoE switch.
This is great news!

So theoretically Basebox 2 can also be powered from Omnitik 5 AC PoE out, but I will need to buy a Basebox 2 to confirm that.
