I have a project that contains a cat5e network cable. I currently know the difference between cat5e and cat6, but I am at a loss to replace all the cables to cat6, knowing that the network is a simple network and simple uses such as using the Internet (the speed is 200 Mbps) and an accounting program used by 20 employees ( No pressure on the network)
My question here is is it worth paying the amount to change the wires to cat6?
Offcourse it is not.
I’ve installed CAT5e about 15 years ago over here.
It runs 1Gbits/sec just fine.
So this office has already CAT5e ? I would offcourse perhaps have all the outlets tested or something, but spending again money to replace cables seems crazy. Better make sure your WIFI-environment is top-notch. and spend some money on that.
I do agree in @jvanhambelgium conclusion.
5e should be more than sufficient to run 1GB network up to 100 meter. If it does not work, you have bad cabling.
A hint: proper termination of UTP cables (patch panel, wall outlets, etc) is probably more important than cable category. At least on short runs, up to 15 or 20 metres between termination points.
Untwist pairs in length of 5 cm and cat5e cable is no longer 1000BaseT compliant.
