I just moved to a new company recently and in my old job we ran all Mikrotik routers and used them for our DHCP instead of Windows server. We used active directory integrated DNS. It’s my understanding that Windows client computers will by default, update the DNS server (Forward / A record) when they receive an IP address from DHCP and they make a request to the DHCP server to add their PTR record to reverse DNS. I don’t recall ever having a problem with this. Now that I’ve moved to this other company and we’re using Microsoft Server for our DHCP I’m seeing all these options that I don’t remember seeing before such as disabling the ability for DHCP to notify DNS of the new PTR and/or A record. I’m not really sure what I’m asking since it always just worked – are there options in Mikrotik to update DNS?
No, Mikrotik is not a full-on DNS server.
In Active Directory environments I always assign the Windows Server’s IP as the Primary DNS in my MT PPPoE server, else you allways have NetBios problems.
What are you actually asking?
