I would like to ask if it is normal for my router to have 62c with just 1 connected device on WiFi 5GHZ AX? If not, what can I do to lower the temperature of the router? Thank you for the responses

Just received my hAP AX2. Got it set up with my modem and its running at a consistent 57 c in a 12 c room. It’s warm to the touch as well.
I’ve updated RouterOS to 7.8 but that hasn’t changed anything.
I’m a little worried since max operating temperature is 50 c.
Hopefully someone knows what might be going on. It’s almost like the router isn’t regulating voltage for cpu or the radios and causing it to overheat.
I believe these temperatures are normal, I’m here with a piece and analyzing it daily. Remembering that the tests are carried out in environments from -40 to 50 degrees, remembering that this is the temperature of the ambient air (eg rooms and offices) and not the equipment.

there is a tiny price to pay for such a versatile and powerfull device in a compact fashion, most electronics works ok up to 90°C or even more so i think 65°C is no problem
Just checked on my AX2, 58C in a small closed enclosure, only AP function.
In that same space also RB5009 which shows 48C (but it has a HUUUGE heatsink (as in: the metal case !) so it can get rid of heat quite efficiently)
AX3 only used as AP (and some limited VLAN handling): also 58C.
I recall a discussion about cAP AX where Normis said that chipset (used in AX3, AX2, cAP AX) requires quite some space and openings to dissipate all heat.
On AX3 it’s a wide body with a lot of holes in it.
AX2 is more compact but more openings in the case (and also reduced CPU for that reason ?).
For cAP AX it’s also a (relatively) large body with the necessary ventilation openings.
No. The reported temperature is the temperature reported by a sensor in the equipment - presumably on the PC board.
And I agree, that’s pretty normal.
Although we know that the router is built to operate at those temperatures, I did not feel very comfortable with that situation, especially with the harsh summers we have in the south of Spain.
What I have done is place a 120 mm fan on the router, extracting air at about 600 rpm. The router went from showing 57Âş C to a sustained 36/37Âş C.
“Ambient” assumes free air dissipation of heat. If the device is in a cabinet then the issue is maintaining an air flow something equivalent to being in free air. Given the device specifications and tolerances, the real question is not the device but the air around it.
My example is that living closer to the equator than the south of Spain, hemisphere switched, I have a router, switch, and small UPS (the biggest heat generator) stuffed into a small high cupboard shelf in an unconditioned room, because that is where the builder put the patch panel. I use two 120 mm USB-powered impellers with a multi-stage thermostat to keep ambient temperature below 30° in Summer, by pushing air through narrow slits from the rear to front. Fans trigger at 26° and max out at never-reached 36°. Really, this is over-kill.
Given satisfactory ambient, the equipment will be fine. It is within design parameters. My advice is to stop worrying about CPU temperature and monitor ambient. If you are still nervous even with a good ambient temperature then very quiet, reliable, small (80-120 mm) USB-powered fans will cool both the equipment and your worries.
The “cpu temperature” is a temperature measured on the CPU chip itself, and it is always quite a lot higher than any temperature you would measure with a sensor on the board or on the outside of the package.
62c is not unreasonably high.
That being said, it never hurts to have some additional cooling. In my setup I have a stack of RB4011, an 8-port switch, and a VDSL modem. I have a small fan (8cm) behind it that is powered from a lower voltage than what it is built for, so it blows some air without making “fan noise”. That reduces the temperature of the devices in the summer.
Ours is in a wooden cabinet, the room’s ambient temperature is about 25-27°C. The device measures 58-60°C. When I touch it, it does not seems hot. It is working normal…we will see if it is good for the device or not.
