Ok, I have to setup an area of town with wireless internet, two weeks out of the year during an event. Verizon Wireless brings in several mobile trailers. There is no DLS, high speed cable at this location. I was thinking of using a standard Verizon Wireless AirCard for the uplink, then take that and redistribute through 802.11 b/g.
My understanding is I will need a basic computer, windows operating system, load RB OS 3.20 on top of it (i have yet to try this). Is there an executable file to run, to install RB OS on a windows machine?
My question is, will this work in the real world? Is there steps or processes I am missing? I would like to start ordering the necessary tools to make this happen.
An older laptop may work very well as a ROS based CDMA/EVDO → ethernet NAT/firewall, and then connect a RB400 series board with the requisit wireless cards, and all should be well.
You may have to initially install the card in a Windows PC to do any updates (PRL, etc), but from there if you have hardware that’s supported by ROS, it should be fairly easy to setup. And, not terribly expensive as a bonus!
