Hi, I’m planning on buying a mikrotik router in order to play with routerOS (my current soho router satisfies my needs but I want to learn some networking). My first thought was buying the cheapest one (rb941-2nd) but then I’ve read that the antenna gain is not good, and it might not cover my house (40m2). So I wanted to know if this other model (rbdisc-lite5) has a directional or an omnidirectional antenna? I think it is directional, but I didn’t find any information about its coverage angle, if it is 180 degrees it might work for me. Any ideas? Or would you rather recommend another WiFi router with an antenna of higher dBi? Thanks
The brochure https://i.mt.lv/cdn/rb_files/DISCplusLite5plusac-180226165327.pdf list the antenna beam width as 12° - so probably not.
For a 180 ° coverage you’d have to look at something like 3 dB - 6 dB antenna gain.
