Questions and help with the dude

Hello everyone,

  1. is it possible to import multiple routers into the dude at the same time with never previously using the dude? (i.e. csv or xml format)

  2. for monitoring is it best to use SNMP v1, v2, v3 ? versions ranging from 2.95 to 5.16

I don’t care about graphing just uptime status. I know that SNMP was reported to have issues with crashing etc.

  1. Can we do a script to add to wall garden list for all devices without having to touch a single one of them?

#1 No but the first time through auto-discover will do, be careful with auto-discover especially on BGP routers.
a. (if I knew then what I know now) I would manually add a single device then under services for that device click “discover” then spend time to learn how services are added to devices. Once I understood that then I would autodiscover small sections of networks Note you can put - to specify a range. i.e. 192.168.1.100-120.

#2 SNMP will depend on the device you are trying to reach. If your devices supports v3, use it, otherwise use v2, it supports faster retrieval of multiple counters then v1 if all else fails.

a. Crashing or just pegging cpu? It will peg the cpu on a weak router running BGP connected to the internet with a full feed. It might even peg the dude server trying to download that to the SNMP tab of a router. (the dude will read anything you let it and it automatically reads routes)

#3 Yes “Auto discover” should do it but you will need to allow dude into the garden with a firewall rule…
